Rammed earth doesn't ask to be dressed up, it asks to be seen. Walls of compacted earth run from the entrance hall through to a curving spiral staircase in this home, and the lighting design leans into that rather than working against it: soft uplighting from ground level lets the natural texture, depth and tonal variation of the material read as the architecture itself, not just a backdrop for it. It's a building method with real roots on this side of the Atlantic too, echoed in adobe and rammed earth homes across the American Southwest, and the same instinct applies wherever it's built: let the material do the talking.
