As gunmen moved through the area, Imam Abubakar Abdullahi opened his mosque and his home to 262 Christians fleeing for their lives. Then the attackers came to his door. Abdullahi stood his ground and told them that everyone inside was Muslim. The gunmen eventually left. All 262 Christians survived. No weapons. No security detail. Just an elderly imam who decided that protecting human life mattered more than religious differences. His courage later earned him the 2019 International Religious Freedom Award from the U.S. State Department. 262 lives saved. One man at the door.
