My humble advice to anyone who wants to buy a vehicle in the Philippines: get a Toyota SUV or truck. Sometimes you’ll have to drive through minor flooded roads, so I wouldn’t recommend a Honda Civic—unless you don’t mind getting your feet wet. 😂

I bought the cheapest most dependable car possible a Volkswagen bug(1800 usd) because insurance for foreigners is practically nonexistence….. so to take 30,000usd +++ and to put it on four wheels in the PI and drive it around- you’re becoming a target. AND If a foreigner has a wreck there you’re paying the piper big-time. I try to look as average and humble as possible.

I bought a 2027 Toyota Fortuner LTD the loaded package for $43K. It comes with free services for 24 months. The 2.8 liter turbo diesel gets great mileage because it doesn't have all the emissions and fuel here is like what diesel use to be in the past.

We have a 2003 Isuzu Trooper diesel. It was only $5000 and needed new tires $600. We bought a new 2024 Honda BR-V, a 7 seat SUV. It was only $20,000. We live there about half the time. There are some good used cars there, but expect to do a lot of deferred maintenance. I would stick to Honda, Toyota or Isuzu. Good quality and easy to find parts.

not sure why guys get a pickup here in the Philippines when the vast majority have no real use for them. They rent, own a condo or already have a house. Parking can be a bitch to find. I paid for a new medium size SUV was 16k.
