@madpas.tattoo: I’m using two realistic reference photos of classic chess pieces: a rook and a knight. First, I loosely sketch both shapes and combine them into one composition. The knight crashes down onto the rook, which crumbles beneath its weight. Once the composition works, I place tracing paper over the sketch and redraw everything as clean linework.
