@neuroxart: Homes used to be designed more around the human experience. Not only to be functional, but to create spaces that felt good to be in. And beauty was only part of it. Spaces were also designed around human connection. Conversation pits created intimate places for friends and family to gather. Fireplaces brought people together around warmth, while their beautiful surrounds made them natural focal points of the room. Window seats created quiet places to read, rest or simply watch the world outside. Stained glass and transom windows brought in delicate light and color. Textiles, tapestries and detailed lighting added richness. Bedrooms were designed to feel romantic, warm and cozy. Even the smallest functional details; from door handles to vents, contributed something beautiful and interesting to a space. It wasn’t just about filling a home with beautiful objects. It was about creating interesting, sensory surroundings that made people want to gather, stay, connect and feel at home. Maybe we don’t need to recreate the past. But there’s a lot we can learn from what got lost on the way.
