@ny1: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch were among the city officials gathered at NYPD Headquarters Wednesday to unveil a new memorial wall marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The ceremony honored the lives of the 23 NYPD members who died on 9/11 and the hundreds who have died from related illnesses since. "Every officer present that day embodied the NYPD's creed: that the duty to protect is not a job that one clocks out of, but a calling one answers until the very end," Mamdani said. "This wall will ensure that generations who have no memory of September 11th will still understand what that day revealed about this department: the courage of those who responded, the magnitude of what they gave and the responsibility their example places on everyone who follows them," Tisch said.
