The park closed in January 2025 amid declining attendance and a French law phasing out whale and dolphin performances and captivity, but the two orcas remain there. Most of the park’s veterinary staff and animal caregivers have reportedly been dismissed since the closure, though officials say a reduced crew continues to provide basic care. Photojournalist Seph Lawless has spent months documenting Wikie and Keijo and started a petition calling on France to secure a safe, transparent relocation plan. More than 91,000 people have signed, urging independent veterinary oversight and asking that mother and son remain together unless experts determine otherwise.
