@hidden.ny: Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo today, the first foldable iPhone in the company’s history. Closed, it is roughly the size of a passport, with a 5.4 inch outer display. Opened, it becomes a 7.6 inch screen, the largest ever on an iPhone. The hinge is made from more than 100 components, while a nano textured layer on the inner display is designed to reduce glare and make the center crease less visible. It runs the same A20 Pro chip as the iPhone 18 Pro, brings Split View multitasking to iPhone for the first time and uses Touch ID in the side button instead of Face ID. Apple Pencil support is also coming later this year. Battery and charging were a major focus across Apple’s new lineup. The iPhone 18 Pro can now reach 50% charge in around 15 minutes with a compatible adapter, while the Pro Max offers up to 45 hours of video playback. The Duo uses two batteries, one on each side of the device, and can reach 50% in around 20 minutes. Apple is entering the foldable market more than seven years after Samsung unveiled the original Galaxy Fold in 2019. That first generation was delayed after early devices developed display and hinge problems, and despite years of development across Samsung, Huawei, Motorola and others, foldables still account for only around 2% of the global smartphone market. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 and releases October 23. Apple spent years watching everyone else figure out the foldable phone. Today it finally put the iPhone name on one. #appleiphone #iphoneduo #iphoneultra
