He is a travelling salesman from Prague who one morning discovers that he has turned into a large insect. The Fallen Angel (French: L’Ange déchu) is a painting by the French artist Alexandre Cabanel, created in 1847 when the artist was 24 years old. The canvas depicts the Devil (Lucifer) after his fall from heaven. Sisyphus (more precisely Sisyphos, Ancient Greek: Σίσυφος) is a figure from ancient Greek mythology, a builder and king of Corinth. After his death he was condemned by the gods to an eternal punishment: to roll a heavy stone up a mountain in Tartarus. As soon as the stone almost reached the top, it would roll back down again and again, forcing him to start the work over. From this comes the expression “Sisyphean labour,” meaning hard, endless and futile work and torment. The ouroboros is one of the oldest symbols, depicting a snake or lizard coiled into a circle and biting its own tail.
