Some things happen that divide your life into BEFORE and AFTER. Losing our girls did that. There is no version of our lives where that didn’t happen. No moving on from it. No pretending it didn’t change us. It changed EVERYTHING. But somewhere inside a loss that big, it’s easy to start believing… Because our life will never be the same… nothing will ever be good again. And eventually, without even realizing it, the loss can become more than something that happened. It can become who you are. We understand how that happens. When something hurts badly enough, it can become the lens you see everything through. But we’ve had to make a very deliberate distinction: Losing McKinzley and Ellie will ALWAYS be part of our story. It is not our entire identity. We are their parents. We miss them. We would change what happened in a heartbeat if we could. AND… We are still here. Still married. Still making memories. Still attempting to find things we want from this life. None of that makes what happened less devastating. It means we refuse to let the worst moment of our lives decide what EVERY moment after it gets to be. Because we didn’t get to choose what happened. But we do get some say in what happens next. We can be defined by what happened… or refined by what we choose to do with what remains. Not because the loss happened “for a reason.” Not because we needed some horrible lesson. And certainly not because what happened was somehow good. It wasn’t. But that does NOT mean good ended there. That truth and distinction has been essential in our healing. And it’s exactly the kind of thing we’re going to work through in our upcoming Emotional Pivot Under Pressure session. Life changes fast. You may not like or agree with the shifts and changes. You may logically know you have choices… But actually being able to FIND those choices while you’re overwhelmed are two very different things. We’re going to show you how we use the Emotional Pivot when emotions are high, thinking gets harder, and life is asking something from you anyway. If you’re tired of hard things deciding what the rest of your life gets to look like, come join us. Details are in the link in our bio. #Grief #LifeAfterLoss #EmotionalResilience #GriefSupport #FunctionalEmotionalResilience
