The biggest theme is loneliness. Why? Because I was so f&king lonely as a kid. If it wasn’t my braces, my acne, being overweight, or my speech impediment…it was my parents’ incessant arguing. My brother refusing to ever think I was cool. My own self-esteem telling me nobody would ever believe I was worth their time. So I wrote a character who’s 17 and feels the way I did. Because I know there are 17-year-olds who feel like that right now. And I also know that loneliness doesn’t stop when you leave your teenage years. So I wrote a character who’s 28. She’s lonely and avoidant and scared to love. Because at 28 I was still terrified to let anyone in—to accept love. I hid who I was and pretended to be perfect. So I wrote her because I know there are 20-somethings (and 30-somethings) who feel exactly the same. But I couldn’t stop there. Because I have a client in her seventies and she told me: “Life is loneliness with people beside you.” So I wrote a character who’s 67, and lonely, and doesn’t want to live anymore because he doesn’t see the point. The theme is loneliness. The setting is LA. But the answer is connection. So thank you for connecting with me on this post— in this weird caption that I WROTE. Not AI.
