Lomo is actually not named retroactively. It is short of “lomography” which refers to a type of lofi filtered photography, but the term was widely used in China back in the 2010s to refer to pictures with heavy filter, wide aperture, small objects, lots of bokeh etc. Ppl would say “lomo风” (meaning lomo style) or “唯美风”. A lot of us used to post these pictures in our qzone albums (Chinese equivalent of MySpace).

I think it is good that theres not officially a name for the aesthetic yet because i remember how differently the results looked when you looked up the term Frutiger Aero on google a few years back. And now its just full of random bubbles, grass, and fish designs with ai generated images.
