🕊️ This is “Avinu Malkeinu”, an ancient and deeply moving prayer traditionally sung during the High Holidays. It’s a plea for compassion, peace, and hope in times of despair. Barbara Streisand once introduced this prayer by saying, “It asks God to have compassion for us and our children, to help bring an end to war and famine, and to cause all hate and oppression to vanish from this earth.” How hauntingly relevant her words remain today. This new “Jewish Singers Around the Globe” collab was originally meant to be released on Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur, but it seems equally fitting to share it now as we welcome 2025, and light the menorah for Hanukkah – a holiday that reminds us that even in the darkest of times, a single flame can overcome darkness. It’s heartbreaking to think that since I released the first Hatikvah video in November 2023, so many of our hostages still remain in captivity. Our acapella rendition of Avinu Malkeinu is a prayer for their return. A prayer for peace. A prayer for a world where compassion and unity triumph over hatred and division.
