Exactly. I think a lot of women on TikTok have lost sight of the distinction between basic hygiene, self care, and the pursuit of perfection. With the sheer amount of paid advertising and sponsored content promoting skincare, makeup, dermatological treatments, hair removal, and countless other beauty products, women are constantly being exposed to the idea that there is something else they should be doing to improve their appearance. Eventually, these beauty standards get framed as requirements for femininity: “You’re not feminine enough if you don’t do this,” or “You’re unhygienic if you don’t do that.” At that point, it’s no longer really about hygiene. It becomes an endless cycle of consumption, self criticism, and trying to achieve an increasingly unrealistic standard of what a woman is supposedly meant to look like.
