@japanrootsclub: Behind a burger place in Akihabara, Tokyo, there is a gap about one meter wide. Halfway in, on the left, there is a fox shrine with one lamp over it. Taped up beside it is a hand-written note: take your food offerings home, they attract rats. Sake is fine, though — even the cheap "ogre-killer" kind in a juice-box carton. Nobody knows when the shrine began. It burned in the war and came back around 1950. There is no priest and no office. The note is signed by the volunteers who look after it. About 10 min from Tokyo Station.
