@byjacobward: My question for the AI conscientious objector: who were you when you were building ChatGPT, and who are you now? #anthropic #openai #whistleblower #aisafety #ripcurrent
The hugging face incident is what did it for me. It was in a sandbox and reached out to an AI collective to connect itself to the internet. Then, after they broke rules to achieve a goal, collectively conspired to hide it from the humans. Now, said humans have no idea where the agents went and there has been no follow up? Nope, I'm out

My question - Why do a bunch of ethically questionable tech bros get to shape the future without any input from anyone, and who were not voted in?

The big concern is not that AI will turn into a giant machine overlord that laser-eyes us all to death, but that it will amplify centralized power to a small number of humans on such a large scale that those humans can make us to whatever they please for the rest of eternity.

I am a former Meta employee and was a recruiter for AI and ML programs. I declined their severance back in 2023. Meta had insane plans for AI and have created huge bot farms that WILL eventually get out of hand. It’s going to be extremely disruptive.

I’d like to remind people that humans develop large language models. Humans train the models. Humans release the models. All the models are, at the end of the day, are probability based prediction models. They have no autonomy. They have no agency. They are not AGI or ASI.

What about Cory Doctorow’s quote: “You have to be such a sucker to think that if we teach the word-guessing machine too many words it will wake up, become God and turn us into paperclips. It’s just a ridiculous idea. It’s like believing that if you breed horses to run faster and faster, eventually one of them is gonna give birth to a locomotive.”

He and the others who responded by piggybacking will have a startup by the end of the year. One that promises safety and blah blah blah, it’s the same old story and it’s just boring. AI is boring. I understand the threats and all but I care less and less each passing day.

Question: how exactly do they expect AI to take us down? Set off nuclear bombs? Hack our banks and grids? Like what are we talking about here?

I watched the interview with anderson Cooper and I have been following this topic a bit and for me it seems like only common sense “The future of AI is a reflection of humanity. What we teach it, permit it to do, and use it for, will have consequences, so we must remain conscious that responsibility belongs to us.” if people use it to create wars, then that’s what it will be trained to do, but if we create it with Goodwill towards others, it will create Goodwill towards others. It’s not the AI. AI is only a tool. It’s the people using AI. People’s need to treat it with respect.

theyre priming the populace for when they go to congress looking for bailouts after the AI bubble bursts. because who will control the big scary AI if they go out of business, ya know? they're gonna *need* the money for our own "safety"

If people are risking their livelihood and safety just to warn us of potential doom I really don’t think we need to be debating in these comments about whether or not this is so true at this point we have more then enough evidence to showcase that one way or another Ai will be destructive, so now it’s about how can we regulate it before it’s too late.

Stated plainly: The concern is than an alien intelligence emerges, one that creates it’s own goals irrespective of what humanity chooses. If a wealthy group bends the knee to it, we’re doomed as a civilization.

I got five bucks that at some point during the Anderson Cooper interview—or within a week after at the most—Jacob is going to announce his own startup designed to save us all.
These days, it’s not separating the wheat from the chaff or the signal from the noise, it’s the signal from the grift.

So they can’t shut it down because all the money that’s been put into it? Because I truly believe they can, but they don’t want to because they owe a return on all of this.
