Tupac Shakur's stepbrother asked a judge today to sentence Duane "Keffe D" Davis to the maximum sentence for his role in Shakur's 1996 shooting in Las Vegas. Maurice "Mopreme" Shakur is the son of Tupac's stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, who married Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur. Maurice and Tupac grew up together and referred to each other as brothers. Maurice was a member of Tupac's hip-hop groups Thug Life and the Outlawz. "What did you want to tell me about this crime and the impact it's had on your life?" asked Judge Carli Kierny in Nevada's 8th Judicial District in Las Vegas. "The impact from my brother's murder has been devastating, heartbreaking and sad for me, my family and the nation of Pac fans and loved ones. Pac didn't get a chance to have any kids. Pac didn't see his nieces and nephews grow up, and Pac didn't have a child. All Pac got was a death sentence. So the longest possible, Your Honor. Thank you," he said. Judge Kierny sentenced Davis to the maximum sentences allowed for first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon, which is 20 years to life in prison. She ordered him to serve the sentences consecutively, so Davis' total sentence is 40 years to life in prison. That means Davis, who is 63, must serve at least 40 years before he's eligible for parole. He'll be credited for 731 days already served in jail. #law #crime #court
