I love joe and i think he is a very kind and loving soul and obviously he just wants to help people find more beauty in their lives. Unfortunately though, is the stuff he is saying here counter productive. Not because you cant make your life more beautiful by taking his tips, that you can, but in removing what causes insecurities in the first place. If you do stuff because you can’t endure feeling insecure about something, then that insecurity just received more fuel to keep burning. You almost prove the idea “i am not good enough” as true, because you didn’t see the thought “i am not good enough” as just the theory that it is anymore but instead behaved accordingly to how you would need to if it was true. And not how you would if you knew a thought is just a theory, It’s an attempt to reflect reality, and it’s always a wrong one, or rather an incomplete one at best. One might think: “who cares if i believe in this thought, if my thoughts can never actually reflect reality perfectly? So why not just believe this one when it helps me?” But why believe ANYTHING that is at best incomplete? The problem that arises from believing something about yourself that you don’t know to be true, results in you not knowing why you feel not good enough and thus always feel unworthy, because you will accumulate so many different beliefs around every niche in your life about yourself that it becomes impossible to pin down the one thought that causes you to feel unworthy in the first place, that it finally will seem to you like an inherent feeling that sits at the base personality and is untouchable. Like if i really knew for a fact that i was objectively ugly, then i can change my appearance and the thought will disappear as well, but when you feel like you’re inherently wrong you can’t do anything but distract from that feeling. But once you rediscover that the thought is just a theory, a reflection, and never the real thing, then you can choose not to engage with it at all or even better laugh about it because you see what a ridiculous idea your mind sold to your own mind as “reality” when in reality, you know that you don’t really know shit about reality.
