@battleshipmissouri: One week ago, we gathered aboard the USS Missouri to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the end of World War II. 🕊️ Beginning at 9:02 am, our annual ceremony brought together veterans, dignitaries, military leaders, and community members on the decks of the Mighty Mo — the very ship where representatives of Japan and the Allied nations signed the Instrument of Surrender on September 2, 1945. Centered around this year’s theme, “From Pearl Harbor to Peace: The Journey That Changed the World,” the morning was one of remembrance and reflection, honoring those who served while considering the responsibility each generation carries to preserve the peace that followed. The commemoration included remarks from distinguished speakers, performances by the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, a moment of silence, Taps, Amazing Grace performed by Celtic Pipes & Drums Hawai‘i, and a concluding 21-rifle salute by Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay.
