You need some airflow under the mattress, otherwise it will mold over time. some vent holes in the plywood or something.

Plywood is better than oak depending on the situation. Ply is less likely to warp. It has a higher strength to weight ratio. It is less prone to issues with moisture and humidity. But the main advantage in suggesting ply over oak is manufactured material has proven uniformity in its properties. With natural wood you may get knots or stress cracks or pest damage. Again all depends on the circumstances. They are trying to help make sure the project turns out to work at the end. You can do it your way for sure. But you may hit snags you would not have. You may for example need to increase the counter weight mass or add more springs or stronger bolts.

You should make the underside of the bed frame look like a big decorative cabinet/closet. Make fake doors, trim them out, etc.

Could you have like a hook to latch the bed to the floor when it’s down to prevent the bed picking up? playing the sims has actually made me afraid of murphy beds flipping up and me ending up as an upside down corpse on the wall lol
