walmart associate here! the machine is in fact malfunctioning, specifically the scanner. when the machine is paused, there will be a message on the screen saying “associate is on the way” and the light above the machine will blink red. sometimes the scanners just give out and we have to trouble shoot them or reboot them.

they can't detain you for not showing your receipt. I'm a former walmart employee, you can be asked but you can tell them in a hurry bye.

I use to work at self checkout at Walmart and we can’t pause the machines like that. It would always say “associate on the way” if it’s not scanning then it’s a machine issue the amount of times it happened and we had to reset the machines was insane.

As a cashier at Walmart. That's not how it looks when we freeze the self checkouts. It's malfunctioned many times and won't let anything scan.

the machine is malfunctioning I work front end and we deal with this all the time. If they actually paused your register it would say associate on the way. So no she did nothing to the machine
