My aunt has been married 31 years and diagnosed our entire relationship over a pizza menu. 'One fight per fight' now lives rent free in my head every time I want to bring up last Tuesday.

🎃 THE HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN — IT’S NOT WHAT MOST PEOPLE THINK! 👻 Before the candy, costumes, haunted houses, and jack-o’-lanterns, Halloween had a very different meaning. Its roots go back more than 2,000 years! 🔥 1. THE CELTIC BEGINNING Halloween traces part of its history to an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain (pronounced “SOW-in”), celebrated in Ireland and other Celtic regions. It marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. People believed the boundary between the living and the spirit world became thinner during this time. ✝️ 2. THE CHRISTIAN CONNECTION As Christianity spread, November 1 became associated with All Saints’ Day, also called All Hallows’ Day. The evening before became known as All Hallows’ Eve, eventually shortened to Halloween. 🎭 3. WHY DO WE WEAR COSTUMES? In old European traditions, people wore disguises associated with wandering spirits. Over the centuries, those traditions evolved into the costumes we wear today. 🎃 4. PUMPKINS WEREN’T THE ORIGINAL JACK-O’-LANTERNS! Here’s something most people don’t know. The Irish originally carved frightening faces into turnips, not pumpkins! When immigrants brought the tradition to America, pumpkins became popular because they were larger and easier to carve. 🍬 5. WHERE DID TRICK-OR-TREATING COME FROM? European customs included going door to door asking for food, offering prayers, songs, or performances in return. Modern American trick-or-treating became especially popular in the mid-1900s. ❤️ 6. WHAT HALLOWEEN HAS BECOME What began as seasonal traditions involving harvests, spirits, and remembrance eventually became a celebration of costumes, candy, neighborhoods, and childhood memories. THINK ABOUT THIS: Something celebrated thousands of years ago is still bringing families and communities together today. The costumes will be forgotten. The candy will disappear. But the memories our children make can last a lifetime. 🎃 Happy Halloween!
