@jacqueslees: Type III Spring Clip The Type III spring clip fastening is similar to the Pandrol e-Clip fastening. It uses cast shoulders (pre-embedded iron housings) cast into the concrete sleeper to maintain the track gauge and resist lateral forces. The rail is clamped by the spring clip, while nylon blocks (insulating gauge blocks) serve as the insulating components and are used for gauge adjustment. Advantages: The Type III is a shoulderless fastening suitable for heavy-haul, high-density traffic conditions. It offers high clamping force (toe load) and good elasticity. In particular, the elimination of the concrete shoulder removes the possibility of gauge widening caused by lateral displacement of the rail foot under lateral force, giving it excellent gauge retention. Furthermore, the elimination of bolted connections greatly reduces fastening maintenance workload. Design parameters — Type III: · Initial toe load per single clip (minimum assembled toe load): ≥ 11 kN · Working deflection of the clip: 13 mm · Maximum lateral force resistance of the fastening: 70 kN (fatigue load) · Gauge adjustment range: +4 / −8 mm Type C4 Spring Clip The Type C4 spring clip is a key component of the Type IV spring clip fastening system. The Type IV system is likewise a boltless fastening — an elastic, non-separated (direct) fastening for sleepers without concrete shoulders. It was developed from the original Type III fastening system through years of in-depth research and extensive testing and optimisation. Building on the Type III clip, the Type C4 clip features a further optimised structure that reduces its working stress and minimises residual deformation.
