I built this type of APB (Acrow Panel Bridge) during my National Service in Singapore, so I am quite familiar with how these bridges are constructed. The bridge itself is extremely sturdy. Its panels are made from aluminium alloy and securely joined at every connection using steel bolts, screws, and nuts.
However, my concern is not the bridge structure itself, but how securely it is supported and anchored at both ends.
From what I can see, the bridge appears to rest on concrete bases, and I question whether those foundations provide sufficient support for a span of this length. The bridge is extremely heavy, and when its own weight is combined with that of pedestrians and vehicles, the total load becomes enormous.
We also cannot ignore the possibility of soil erosion over time, especially around riverbanks. If the soil supporting either end of the bridge is weakened or washed away, the stability of the entire structure could eventually be compromised.
So my question is simple: Is the bridge securely fastened and properly anchored at both ends, with foundations strong enough to withstand the combined weight and forces acting on it?
I sincerely hope the authorities have assessed this thoroughly. When it comes to a bridge carrying people and vehicles, “it looks sturdy” is not enough. It must be structurally safe and properly secured.
During my National Service, I witnessed one or two accidents in which a bridge collapsed while we were building it because of small mistakes made by individuals. I appreciate the government’s prompt initiative, but I am also concerned about safety. I strongly encourage the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough inspection before deciding to open the bridge for public use.
