And her age was the first surprise. 63歳。そして自分のことを「千葉のプリンセス」と呼んでいる。 She’s 63 years old. And she calls herself the “Princess of Chiba.” 実は以前にも、マリーさんとマットと一緒に彼女をインタビューしたことがある。その時に聞いたのが、彼女が続けている「フリーハグ」の活動だった。 I had actually interviewed her before with Mally and Matt. That was when I first heard about her Free Hugs activity. 渋谷でフリーハグをしていると、観光客だけでなく日本人もたくさん来てくれるという。彼女はそこで、人とのつながりや愛を感じている。 When she does Free Hugs in Shibuya, many people come up to her — not only tourists, but Japanese people too. For her, it’s a way to feel connection and love. でも、今回いちばん印象に残ったのは、なぜ突然こんなピンクのスタイルになったのかという話だった。 The most memorable part this time, though, was the story of why she suddenly started dressing in pink. きっかけは約3年前。 60歳になった頃、突然「ピンクが好き」という気持ちが強くなり、毎日ピンクを着ないと落ち着かなくなったという。 It started about three years ago. Around the time she turned 60, she suddenly fell in love with pink and began feeling uncomfortable if she didn’t wear it every day. そして同じ頃、頭に浮かんだのが「フリーハグ」。彼女はそれを、自分の「覚醒」が始まった瞬間だと話してくれた。 Around the same time, the idea of “Free Hugs” suddenly came into her mind. She described that moment as the beginning of her “awakening.” 60歳から始まった、新しい自分。 63歳の今も、ピンクを着て渋谷で人とつながり続けている。 A new version of herself began at 60.
