@thenursegaga: A PICU nurse, Brett Garcia, BSN, RN, RRNA, noticed how often central line dressings were getting ruined before their scheduled change. To tackle this, he created MudFlap: a clear overlay designed to protect existing dressings from spills and snags. When the MudFlap gets dirty, nurses can simply replace it instead of having to open the sterile field for a full dressing change. This innovative solution recently won him first place and $15,000 at the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology's 2026 Rm8 iNoV8 Pitch Competition. He developed this invention entirely on his own. Nurses, what everyday bedside problem do you wish someone would finally invent a solution for? 👇 Share your thoughts below! #NursingInnovation #HealthcareSolutions #NurseLife #MedicalInvention #PICUNurse

now if someone can invent Bluetooth ekg probes and a way to keep them from being lost. also a way to turn them all on at the same time and automatically connect to the ecg machine. anything to get rid of tangled braided wires.

Proper staffing and pt ratios. Would change the game and quality of care. But that’s outlandish to ask for.

As a L&D nurse, we need someone to invent better fetal monitoring parts. We currently strap hard, flat, plastic, monitor pieces to round bellies. The straps are uncomfortable and the monitor pieces constantly have to be adjusted. Seems like 1960 or 1970’s technology.

Can we just appreciate. Instead of saying we do this we do that or nothing new. He took it a step further. No one else did. Credit to him. Next time you have an idea, take that extra step and patent it yourself. And don’t discuss among colleagues or anyone so corporate or whatever does not steal your idea.

In the NICU we make our own, and we've been doing it for ages, he didn't really come up with the idea just executed it, but good for him

The job he had during that invention took his idea and made it their own property. Making them millions while the inventor got a medal

The ones in the field most always come up with more effective, useful and 'smarter not harder' soultions. There should be a more streamlined way for them to get their ideas and new procedures tested and to markets.

as someone with a central line, i’m confused at what this actually is, just an extra layer of tape on the perimeter?! i already use that, most of us do, it comes in most dressing kits😭

Breanna Penzien :
See I personally prefer cova clear. It’s technically its own dressing, but it’s a silicone dressing so we put it over our central line dressings to hopefully keep a tight seal and keep the dressing covered
