Half the time it is your manager telling you they cannot defend you, and they are dressing it up as something for you to work on. They have been in a conversation where your name came up and they did not have enough to say, and the version that reaches you is a suggestion that you speak up more. ⠀ So do not raise your hand more often. Give them material instead. Send the short update they can forward without editing. Put a number on the thing you finished. Make sure one person above your manager has seen your work directly and not through a summary.
