Whenever my parents left me home alone… My mom only reminded me of one thing. Not to lock the doors. Not to answer for strangers. She always said, “If you’re taking a shower…” ”…and you hear someone knock on the bathroom door…” ”…don’t answer until the water stops.” I thought it was just another weird parent rule. ⸻ One Saturday… I was home alone. I turned on the shower. About ten minutes later… Someone knocked. Knock. Knock. Knock. I smiled. Probably my parents getting home early. Then I remembered… Their cars weren’t in the driveway. ⸻ The knocking came again. This time… My dad’s voice. “Josh?” “Open the door.” I didn’t answer. The shower curtain slowly moved. Like someone had just brushed against it. I could see a shadow. Standing on the other side. Bare feet. Completely still. ⸻ Then… A whisper. Right beside my ear. Not outside the shower. Inside it. “Good…” ”…you didn’t answer.” I ripped the curtain open. Nobody. The bathroom was empty. The floor was completely dry. There weren’t even any wet footprints. ⸻ I got dressed as fast as I could. As I opened the bathroom door… Every mirror in the hallway was covered in steam. Someone had written the same sentence on each one. “Next time… don’t look behind the curtain.” Then my phone buzzed one last time. A photo had just been taken. From inside my bathroom.
