@gypsysoultraveller: Agra Fort hidden secrets you need to know before you visit India! 🇮🇳👇 If you look closely at the white marble pillars inside the Agra Fort history museum pavilions, you will notice these empty, rough circles. They weren't always empty. During the Mughal Empire, architects engineered these royal palace walls as "suncatchers." They placed real diamonds and precious crystals in the exact center of the inlaid marble flowers (Pietra Dura). During British colonial rule and early India tourism in the 19th century, soldiers and tourists used pocket knives, keys, and bayonets to gouge the diamonds right out of the walls to keep as souvenirs. When the monument was later restored, replacing thousands of stolen diamonds was impossible, so the empty sockets were left exactly as they were...literal scars of Indian history. 💔 #FYP #india #agrafort
