Things I Quit to Grow Closer to God 1.I quit putting God last. I stopped giving God whatever time was left after everything else. I learned to give Him my first and my best. 2.I quit chasing people’s approval. I realized I cannot be deeply rooted in God while constantly needing people to validate me. I quit entertaining relationships that pulled me away from God. Not every connection deserves access to me. Some relationships cost too much spiritually. 3. I quit compromising my convictions. I stopped bending my standards just to fit in, be accepted, or keep someone. 4. I quit feeding my flesh everything it wanted. I learned that maturity sometimes means saying, “I want this, but I choose God.” 5. I quit comparing my journey with other people’s journeys. Their timing is not my timing. Their assignment is not my assignment. 6.I quit constantly consuming and started receiving. Less noise. Less endless scrolling. More Scripture. More prayer. More silence before GGod. 7. I quit running from uncomfortable conviction. When God showed me something in me that needed to change, I stopped making excuses and started ssurrendering. 8.I quit trying to control everything. I learned that surrender is not weakness. Sometimes faith looks like releasing what I cannot control into God's hhands. 9.I quit carrying offenses. I learned that forgiveness is not always reconciliation. Sometimes forgiveness is releasing someone from the debt I keep collecting in my hheart. 10. I quit making excuses for spiritual laziness. I stopped saying, “I don't have time.” I began making time. 11.I quit being comfortable with a shallow relationship with God. Knowing about God was no longer enough. I wanted to know Him. 12. I quit asking only, “What can God do for me?” I started asking, “Lord, what do You want to do through me?” 13.I quit chasing blessings more than the Blesser. I don't want God's hand while neglecting God's heart. 14.I quit trying to build a life God never instructed me to build. I learned that success outside God's will can still leave the soul empty. 15.I quit entertaining thoughts that contradicted God's Word. I began becoming intentional about what I allowed to occupy my mind. 16.I quit rushing God's process. I learned that waiting is not wasting when God is using the season to prepare me. 17.I quit returning to places God delivered me from. Freedom requires refusing to romanticize old chains. 18.I quit confusing activity with intimacy. Being busy for God is not the same as being close to God. 19.I quit living Christianity only publicly. I began caring about who I was when nobody was watching. And perhaps the biggest thing I quit... 20.I quit negotiating with God. I stopped saying: “God, I will obey You, but…” “God, I will surrender this, but…” “God, I will follow You if…” I began learning the beauty of: “Yes, Lord.” Because sometimes getting closer to God is not about adding more things to your life. Sometimes it is about removing everything that keeps competing for the throne of your heart. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8 The closer I get to Him, the less attractive some things become. Not because I am perfect. But because my appetite is changing. What once satisfied me no longer satisfies me. What once entertained me now grieves me. What once distracted me now feels empty. Because when you truly encounter God, you don't just change what you do. God begins changing what you desire.
