Reader’s perspective: Rustom protected Carmina because filing an adultery case against her would have ruined her image and made people see her as a huge red flag, severely affecting her career. Wanting to protect her and the kids from suffering, Rustom chose to spare them. Inspired by real events: Back then, tumawag si Carmina kay Rustom to ask for help, and Rustom said, “Kung tumawag ka para marinig nang diretso sa akin na hindi ako magpa-file, I'm telling you now na hindi.” *** In the interview, Rustom recalled a phone conversation with Carmina Villarroel after she gave birth in the U.S.: “Well, nagso-sorry siya about everything. Inamin niya yung tungkol sa panganganak niya. I told her, ‘Let’s move on, let’s go on with our respective lives.’ Again, she mentioned about the adultery case. I told her, ‘Kung tumawag ka para marinig diretso sa akin na hindi ako magpa-file, I’m telling you now na hindi. Carmina is young, in love, and reckless. maybe she thinks she already knows everything... even though at a stage where she's that young, she tend to miss out her own youth, opportunities and the chance to grow...not with someone but by herself—and a chance to love herself more. I understand that when you're young and in love you don't think too hard...you just pursue the "feelings". The heart comes before the head..ika nga. Maybe it's the kind of love that will help her mature and see how to build a relationship with a man. But it's not the "happy ending" kind of love where na-enjoy mo na lahat-lahat sa buhay mo, kaya gusto mo na mag-asawa. Maybe it is a great love indeed, but not a true love.
