@ajumobihonest: DON’T LET PEOPLE HOLD YOUR FUTURE HOSTAGE One of the most important lessons I learned during my college days is that people may influence your circumstances, but they should never be allowed to determine your future. I once had a good relationship with a senior lecturer, but an unintentional mistake damaged that relationship. He became angry and vowed to deal with me. I was concerned because I knew he had the authority and influence to make things difficult for me. Yet, I chose not to allow fear or the situation to stop me from moving forward. I had made a mistake, but I refused to make that mistake the definition of my future. By God’s intervention, I graduated and eventually obtained my certificate. That experience taught me a powerful lesson: Your past may explain where you are, but it does not have to determine where you are going. People may misunderstand you. They may reject you. They may oppose you. You may even make mistakes. Take responsibility. Learn. Make amends where necessary. But keep moving. Never allow someone’s opinion, anger, rejection, or opposition to put your destiny on hold. What you think about yourself matters, but what God thinks about you matters even more. Keep growing.
