@mj.outdoor.adventures: 🥾 Royal Kentish Women’s Camino Day 2 Elham → Canterbury Day 2 started an hour earlier as we made our way from Elham to Canterbury, following sections of the Elham Valley Way and North Downs Way. We welcomed back ten women from Day 1, along with one new face joining us for the final section. A short detour to Barham Village Store resulted in copious amounts of snacks 😂 before lunch on the village green and then onwards towards Canterbury. This section was much less hilly, with a beautiful rolling valley, wildflowers and a sunflower field along the way. We also tackled some rather overgrown sections and even walked through a field with a bull right beside us! Thankfully, everyone made it through safely. We had a stricter timetable than we would normally have on one of our walks. A huge thank you to everyone for helping us keep to time. St Martins church opened for a private tour for us. I"d never been inside St Martin's before, and learning more about Bertha and her story was such an important part of our journey. Then it was a 15 minute walk into Canterbury Cathedral, where our welcome from Torin, the Pilgrim's Officer, was genuinely above and beyond. We signed the Pilgrim's Register, received our Pilgrim's Certificate and Pilgrim's Prayer, visited the Pilgrim Stone and were shown the beautiful pilgrimage imagery around the cathedral, including the stained glass. We also said a prayer together around the Pilgrim Stone. I found this part of the journey incredibly moving. Everyone came onto the Camino for their own reasons; whether that was a personal turning point, a challenge, discovering the history or simply seeing how far they could walk. A huge well done to everyone who joined us, whether for both days, Day 1 or Day 2. ❤️ This was very different from our usual walks, and it was wonderful to see it received so warmly. And finally, thank you to every volunteer, historian and clergy member who welcomed us, and everyone behind the scenes who helped make this whole journey and the organising possible. As well as Lisa for her fantastic back marking. Elham → Canterbury ✔️ We made it. 🥾❤️ #womenwhowalk #womenswalkinggroup #kentcamino #kentwalks
