@verbaldarrell: 🇸🇬 Ministerial Salaries: 3 Questions We Must Ask 1️⃣ Does paying more actually bring us better political leaders? Does being a brilliant CEO, banker, lawyer or military leader necessarily mean you’ll be a brilliant political leader? 2️⃣ Are we even using the right benchmark? Why should ministerial salaries be benchmarked against the top 1,000 Singaporean earners? Should public service even be valued in the same way as private-sector work? 3️⃣ If we pay exceptional salaries, where is the exceptional accountability? If we use the private sector to justify how much ministers are paid, should we also apply private-sector standards when they fail to deliver?
Look at Jeffrey Siow, Foo Cexiang, Jasmine Lau, David Neo, and the likes from the civil service. In the first place, these posts don’t even count for the top 1000 in private sector. 2ndly, even with their last drawn pay as a Perm Sec, the most, their salary was $500k plus. Now suddenly bum up to $1mil plus, does it make sense? Surely they will be ‘yes’ man as the late Ngiam had said.

I do not agree the pay increase. If someone needs high pay to join public service then we are looking at the wrong pool. The Swiss who is the most close to SG also did not resort to this.

To have the guts to sleep infront of the camera and collect hundreds of thousands of salary is really a rare talent. 90% of his salary goes to having the balls to sleep on the job. No private sector CEOs have the guts to sleep infront of camera🤣🤣🤣

If the Govt screwed up the economy, screwed up the Transport system, public housing prices, the Education system, there is NO accountability at all! So don’t compare urselves to the private sector where heads will roll if the performance is not up to standard.

Totally agree with u bro… any hiring interview process if pay is high it attracts many to want the role and its difficult to assess if the interviewee is competent.. its up to the hiring manager’s competency in identifying the correct candidate…

here's my question: how would you propose trying to attract top talent and leadership from these positions in the private sector?

Another good question for you instead. Why not you join politics, whether it is for the money, for serving Singaporean, or for having a voice in parliament.
