@museumsnews: Do Ho Suh’s 'Floor' (1997–2000) is an extraordinary installation made from transparent glass panels supported by around 180,000 tiny cast plastic human figures. Each figure reaches upwards, collectively carrying the weight of the floor — and the visitors walking across it. The South Korean-born artist uses architecture and the human body to explore ideas of home, displacement, identity and community. In 'Floor', the individual becomes almost invisible within the crowd, yet together these tiny figures become essential to the structure above them. First exhibited in New York, the work went on to appear at major institutions including the @LaBiennalediVenezia, the Seattle Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia.
