The Gift of Men. Corrupted by Morgoth to make the Men of Númenor envy the Elves. Yet the faithful of Númenor were steadfast in the belief that both life and death were gifts. Especially powerful at the Battle of Pellenor fields, when the men of Rohan used Death as their war cry to show the servants of the dark lord that they were unafraid and not as weak as the men sauron had corrupted.

The gift of men seems to be at the expense of elves. For they will wait in the world until the end, forever apart from their mortal friends. I like to think Finrod Felagund got to say goodbye to Beren, but I doubt it. Finrod will never see his mortal friends again. Elrond will never see his brother and daughter. Legolas will never see Gimli and Aragorn. The elves truly get the short end of the stick here.
