"Someone has to manage the estate before coming back to handle corporate paperwork." ​Bam's inclination of her head was subtle, but eyes softened just a fraction. "Very well." ​Later that evening, as the last of the university students trickled out of the main hall, Bam walked down the faculty steps. ​Parked right by the curb was Oom’s sleek car. Oom was leaning against the driver's side door in a casual blazer, hands tucked into her pockets, looking effortlessly, strikingly handsome as the orange sunset caught the highlights in her brown hair. Several passing students were blatantly whispering and sneaking glances at her. ​Bam approached, face a cool mask, though her heart gave an annoying, unfamiliar flutter. ​Instead of driving straight back to the penthouse, however, Oom pulled into the parking lot of an upscale gourmet grocery store. ​"Why are we here?" Bam looking out the window. ​"We need food for the penthouse," Oom stepping out and grabbing a cart. ​Inside, Oom pushed the cart down, while Bam quietly picked out and gathered the needed essentials, carefully inspecting labels before placing them inside. ​"What's your favorite food?" Oom tossing a pack of fresh pasta into the cart. "I know you like black coffee and academic rigor, but what do you actually like to eat?" ​"Vegetables, fruits, pastries," Bam paused, turning her cool gaze toward Oom. "Anything. What about you? What do you want?" ​"Eggs, meat, noodles, vegetables," Oom grinning lightly as she listed her own preferences. "Particularly anything." ​Oom noticed the items Bam had gathered so far and paused, turning to her with a curious tilt of her head. "You don't eat meat?" ​"I don't," Bam replied calmly, reaching for a prime selection from the shelf. "I'll get some for you." ​They turned into the baking aisle, stopping right in front of shelves filled with organic flours, vanilla pods, and baking chocolates. ​Oom turned, resting her hands on the cart handle as she looked at Bam mischievously. "You don't want to get baking stuffs?" ​Bam froze, staring at Oom for so long that Oom's brows furrowed in genuine confusion. ​"Maybe next time," Bam said quietly, clearing her throat to force her voice back into its rigid tone. ​Oom watched her closely, a sudden, playful realization lighting up her eyes as she stepped closer into Bam's space. "Wait. Dr. Saralee, did your stoic mask just slip?" ​"It did not," Bam denied instantly, taking a step back. ​"It did! You smiled," Oom teased, pointing at Bam’s lips. ​"I am merely breathing, Oom. Stop inventing things," Bam sharp jaw setting even as a faint twitch at the corner of her lips betrayed her. ​"You totally did! You're smiling right now!" Oom laughed delightfully, stepping forward as Bam took another defensive step back down the aisle. ​Oom stopped in her tracks, laughter softening into something warm, and breathtakingly tender. She looked up at the tall, stoic woman dressed all in black, eyes shining with absolute sincerity. ​"You are so pretty when you smile, Bam Saralee," Oom murmured softly, her voice dropping into a gentle, sweet melody that echoed down the quiet aisle. "Please smile more." ​Bam stood completely still under Oom's gaze, her throat suddenly very dry, utterly powerless to stop the genuine, soft smile that slowly, helplessly bloomed across her face. #oomeisaya #bamsaralee #oombam
