@jacqueslees: Light Rail Fishplate (Light Rail Joint Bar / Rail Joint Splice) A fishplate (rail joint bar), commonly known as a joint clamping plate, serves the connecting function at rail joints. Fishplates are classified into light rail, heavy rail and extra-heavy rail types. A fishplate is a connecting fastener used to join rail to rail. Compared with rail butt-welding technology, the use of fishplates saves time and labor, and installation is simple and quick. Fishplates are used in conjunction with fishbolts (fish bolts). The fishplate is provided with bolt holes in its middle portion. Along the upper and lower sides of the horizontal axis of the bolt holes, there are provided an upper working surface which comes into contact with the lower portion of the rail head, and a lower working surface which comes into contact with the upper portion of the rail foot (rail base). The rear portion of the said upper working surface extends upward to form a transition section that is higher than the rail running surface; along the lengthwise direction of the fishplate, this transition section forms a bridge-arch profile which is higher in the middle and lower at both ends. The above-mentioned bridge-type fishplate features a simple structure, can reduce the impact of wheels on the rail joint, increase the continuity of longitudinal deformation of the rail at the joint, and improve the smoothness of train passage.
