People love to say they support and understand the depth of mental health and certain conditions as long as the person is sane (extremely contradictory because most TRULY mentally ill people are in fact not sane). Your take is extremely logical and empathetic, almost common sense? Then again it’s not because everyone is calling you crazy. They don’t understand the brain has no limit, the brain especially when in psychosis can make a human do a lot more than anyone wants to admit. We are all human, everyone’s brain experiences things differently. So sure someone could have been diagnosed with postpartum psychosis and say they NEVER would have laid hands on their kids, but again Lindsay nor any other woman who has experienced post partum psychosis experienced it the exact same as the other. There is no guarantee there is a surface level in the brain that stays there during moments of true insanity that states what is wrong or right. I’ve realized a lot of people can’t accept the fact that maybe humans aren’t innately good after all.

I usually love all ur takes but this isn’t it. I think it is totally ok for people to say that she should’ve been found guilty on all counts. Two things can be true at once. Empathy yes. But still having nasty feelings towards her is valid too.

You said it perfectly. It’s simple minded thinking instead of having empathy. It’s not empathy to say oh my God I can’t imagine she would do something like that or I would never do something like that. That’s not empathy. That’s putting blame on someone.

Sometimes brains malfunction in catastrophic ways. What happened was tragic, but punishment is ultimately meant to discourage others from doing the same, while holding someone accountable for something they chose to do which is why the insanity plea is so important. When you weren't correctly viewing the world because your reality was broken, you did not make a consenting choice to do what you did. At that point, there is no "preventing this from happening again" through punitive means; you have to treat it like an accident and put up guardrails to try to make it so other people are not as prone to making the same mistake. Good luck w school and appreciate your takes vm! That said, I think she is completely innocent; the body temp, the inconsistent and unrecorded evidence on top of her begging for help…w that much medication in her system there is no way she would have had the energetic force to do what she is accused of. And the crushed pills and poor cuts; it doesn’t add up at all for a self-inflicted injury either
