Complete Teardown. • 350,000+ km on a Mercedes OM642 V6 diesel - time to find out what’s really happening inside. • This 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class X164 came in with oil leaks and several other issues, including problems around the turbocharger. But after inspection, the engine condition raised enough questions that we decided to completely tear it down and inspect the internals. • The OM642 is well known for main bearing wear and spun bearing problems, especially at higher mileage. That’s one of the main reasons we’re opening this engine instead of simply fixing the external leaks and sending it back on the road. • We’ll inspect the crankshaft, main and connecting rod bearings, pistons, rings, cylinder bores, oil pump and turbocharger.
