one time workin at dg my shift manager came to me very irritated saying "some guy needs help and doesnt know more than 5 words of english and I cant do this today" I dont know what language he was speaking but through shit like this I realized his wife was looking for supplies to fix his shirt, specifically buttons and thread that matched the shirt. took me 3 minutes to get the info and lead them where they needed to be. language is only a barrier when you listen with just your ears and not also your eyes 🤷

nah as someone who works in a place where most ppl cant understand English this man's charades/ hands on communication is top tier. should truly appreciate this lvl of attempt to cross the language barrier bc a lot dont try this hard

I work in a Thai restaurant with Asian people who speak thai. I dont know any Thai and they barely know any English so when we communicate we use hand gestures and they just hand me stuff to do, for some reason they really like me and I know they talk about me but I cant understand anything they say😂 i get rewarded with springrolls, mangos and dumplings! its so fun

In Florida I worked with 1 Brazilian, 1 Puerto Rican, 1 Guatemalan, 1 Portuguese, and only one was going to school to learn English we worked well together in the restaurant we just pointed to things and try to tell each other how to say in English and Spanish and Portuguese and I learned a little bit and they learned a lot from me because they wanted to know more English for free lol the way they said things was a great laugh together after I would help them and the same thing when I did mess up their language lol but hand signals and pointing was the go to for us

Went to Japan and a classmate who speaks zero Japanese got separated from us. She found someone who spoke zero English and somehow communicated the issue and got back to us. 😭

It’s a zoo in here :
Went to Japan with some friends and we went to a fancy steak place and I listed myself as vegetarian because I don’t like steak. When ordering they were so concerned cuz I wanted seafood and I pointed to the steak and went ‘umai? No’ 😂
