Madeira is home to one of the largest surviving remnants of this ancient natural world, which is why the forest feels like a mystical fairy tale 👸 In 1999, Madeira’s Laurisilva — the name for its laurel forest 🌳 — was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Thanks to the fog, wind and unusually twisted branches, every tree in Fanal looks like a different fairy-tale character 😍 Tourists have even given them unofficial nicknames: the Witch Tree, the Happiness Tree, the Spider Tree and the Frog Tree.
