My name is Amanda, and for almost seven years, I thought I had the perfect marriage. My husband, Mesh, was the kind of man people admired. He was successful, calm, respectful, and always knew exactly what to say in public. Whenever we attended weddings, birthday parties, church programmes, or family gatherings, people would look at us and say, “God really blessed you two.” I always smiled. Sometimes, I even believed them. But that morning, everything I believed about my marriage was about to collapse in less than ten minutes. And the strangest part? I wasn’t supposed to be at home. I was supposed to be at work. I was supposed to spend the whole day in my office, completely unaware of what was happening in my own bedroom. But one little mistake changed everything. It started with my phone. That morning, I woke up later than usual because my husband had just returned from a business trip. He arrived sometime after midnight. I barely heard him enter the house. By the time I woke up, he was already sleeping beside me. I looked at him for a few seconds. He looked exhausted. I didn’t disturb him. I quietly got out of bed, took my bath, dressed for work, and went downstairs. Before leaving, I prepared breakfast for him. I also packed some food for him to eat later because I knew he would probably sleep until late. I left the food on the dining table with a note. “Welcome home, my love. Eat when you wake up.” I kissed his forehead before leaving the room. He didn’t wake up. I smiled. I thought to myself, “At least he is finally home.” Then I left. I drove to work. I had barely reached my office when I suddenly touched my handbag. My heart stopped. My phone wasn’t there. I checked again. Nothing. I searched the car. Nothing. Then I remembered. I had left my phone on the bedside table. And that wasn’t the only problem. My office documents were also still at home. I had been working on an important presentation, and the documents I needed were inside a folder I had placed beside my phone. I sat in my office chair and sighed. “God…” I couldn’t go back immediately. There was already so much work waiting for me. I tried using my laptop. That was when another problem appeared. My laptop refused to turn on. I pressed the power button. Nothing. I pressed it again. Still nothing. I connected the charger. Nothing. I tried another socket. Nothing. I almost screamed. My colleague, Ada, walked into my office. “What happened?” “My laptop is de3d.” She laughed. “Maybe it needs rest.” “Ada, please. I’m not joking.” She came closer and tried switching it on. Nothing. She looked at me. “You need another laptop.” “I know.” “Can you buy one?” I looked at her. “From where?” She laughed. “The market.” “The market is far from here. And I need my documents first.” I checked the time. I was already becoming frustrated. Then I remembered my husband. He was at home. I could call him from my colleague’s phone and ask him to give my phone and documents to a dispatch rider. Simple. Problem solved. I borrowed Ada’s phone. I dialed my number. It rang. No answer. I called again. No answer. Again. Nothing. I frowned. Maybe he was still sleeping. I called a fourth time. Nothing. I called again. Still nothing. Ada looked at me. “Maybe he’s asleep.” “He just returned from a trip. He was sleeping when I left.” “Then send him a message.” “With what? My phone is at home.” She laughed. I smiled weakly. Then I remembered I could send him a WhatsApp message from Ada’s phone. I did. “Baby, please wake up. I forgot my phone and the documents on the bedside table. Can you give them to a dispatch rider?
