@hawaiirightnow: Here's the severe damage in Poipu, Kauai from Hurricane Lowell. The first scene looks almost apocalyptic. The ocean reportedly washed out much of the coastal roadway from Lawai Road to Hoone Road. RumFire, the Sheraton and The Beach House were severely damaged. Cars were tossed across roads, and some homes were pushed off their foundations by the waves. Workers and residents in the area say they’re overwhelmed by the destruction. Some longtime residents are comparing the coastal damage to Hurricanes Iniki and Iwa, saying that while those storms were much more powerful and caused widespread devastation across Kauaʻi, they don’t remember seeing this level of wave and storm surge damage in Poipu.
