the crystal gems spended his 14 years in Steven universe to trauma dump him and taking him like a small therapist and now that they're are alr and Steven is stressed af they want to do all the shi he wanted to do with them since he was a little children Steven is all grown up and with adult responsibilities (since the gems started to take him to missions) litterally pearl wanted to rip off his gem bcuz she missed rose, and potentially killing baby Steven since the gem is like his vital support, Garnet and amethyst aren't better, needless to say Greg was any help Steven got stuck in the middle of the war and none cared enough to even try and understand him
