By Day 8 two are unrecognisable and the third is still just a peach. Nothing on that plate is safe. Everything on it is on a timer. And the Qur'an puts friendship on the same plate: "Close friends will be enemies to one another on that Day, except the righteous." (Qur'an 43:67) The thing you thought was permanent spoils like everything else — unless it was built on something that doesn't. Then it names the exception: "There is no fear for you Today, nor will you grieve." (43:68) … "And you will be there forever." (43:71) There forever. No counter in the corner. Nothing rotting at the edge of the frame. If a friendship is going grey and you can't tell what you did wrong — maybe nothing. The bonds that last are the ones pointed at Him.
