Mad Max :
I see all these breathless people arguing and praying for a revaluation of gold. Sorry folks, it is not going to happen. I have been dealing in gold for 46 years, and I have seen booms come and go. But I also do research for the books I write. Research shows that gold has roughly been the same price throughout history. There have been ups and downs, sure, but smooth them out and you will see the average citizen today can buy as much gold, with an average wage, as he could have 100, 500, 1,000, and 2,000 years ago. The idea that gold can be magically repriced to 10 times its value today is ludicrous. It fails to take into account the tens of thousands of tons of jewelry held by private citizens that would suddenly become unimaginably valuable and be cashed in, all the gold mines around the world that would become 20 or 30 times more profitable and expand production, and all the closed gold mines that would reopen. Which central bank is going to buy all this gold at those prices to maintain the price? Dream on, boys.
