It emanated in 1972 - Dundee United travelled to Nigeria for a pre-season to much fanfare as a decent European team and ended up faring really poorly against what was essentially local teams, the ensuing hilarity then resulted in the term taking hold for anyone who was an ‘idiot’ - as the term is over 50 years old, the majority of Nigerians using the term don’t even know it relates to a Scottish football team
