Something I’ve had to learn as my health has gotten worse is how to let go. I used to be that girl with matching jewelry, impeccable hair, nails, and makeup, and a different purse for every occasion. 💅 I wore heels almost every day and I LOVED it. 👠 Now I leave the house bare-faced with my wet hair still in claw clips. 💁🏻♀️ Actually I think the clips I used to style my hair on Valentine’s Day are still in my coat pocket because I barely remembered to remove them in the parking lot on my way into Walmart. 🙈 My wardrobe prioritizes comfort over style (though this adorable sweater, a gift from my bestie, definitely qualifies as both 🙌🏼), I have one purse that I wear with everything, I don’t even own heels anymore, and the only jewelry I consistently wear is my wedding ring. But I showed up for my babies. They don’t care what I wore or what my hair looked like or whether or not I was using a cane. What matters is that I was THERE. Just like the weather, life goes through seasons. There will be seasons of abundance and seasons of struggle. It’s all about give and take, choosing your battles, and extending yourself grace along the way. Trolls will leave comments pitying my poor husband because I’ve “let myself go.” I’m sure it looks that way. But what so many people don’t see is the fight I and other chronically ill people fight just to make it out the door. The uphill battle we’re locked in to do something as simple as showering or brushing our teeth, let alone the “extras” like makeup and jewelry. Those things sometimes feel insurmountable, and that’s okay. After all, you can’t have rainbows without the rain, and flowers can’t grow without storms. All we can do is take an umbrella, ☔️ sharing with those around us when we can. And who knows — along the way we may end up learning to love dancing in the rain. #momlife #danceintherain #eds #heds #chronicillnessawareness #chronicpainmom #motherhoodwithchronicillness #utahmomlife #swig #valentines2025 #showupforyourkids #shareyourumbrella☔️
