@sharkalertsa: People always question how close large sharks come inshore, and it’s clips like this one from Black Point in 2022 which set the benchmark. This was long before the algal bloom disaster in 2025 when large sharks were coming into the shallows to seek oxygenated water. If the food source is around, Great Whites will make their way into the shallows to chase Rays, Snapper, and Porpoises along with the odd Pinniped. St Vincent Gulf is more of a stop-over site for large sharks as they transition between Victoria and South Australia. After a Mink Whale washed up near Victor Harbor, today. I felt compelled to share this video as a timely reminder of why we need to warn our neighbours about attractants on the shore… Footage supplied by Leigh Underwood. • • #jaws #greatwhiteshark #shark #SouthAustralia #Australia

The big sharks very rarely ever came that close to shore in the 1950, 1960, 1970 or 1980. Why?
Perhaps, a big change in food source?

I was in Perth on a beach at least 10 years ago, when we saw the largest great white (totally looked like a sail boat under water). It was as close as it could be. The locals on the beach said it was the biggest one they have ever seen.
